How do DNU-ers "conquer"recruiters?

"It is undeniable that the youth today are exceptionally quick-witted and intelligent. However, a prevailing characteristic among them is a lack of humility, an inflated self-perception, an illusion of power, and an expectation of entitlement without having proven their capabilities. We have turned down many candidates for these reasons despite their impressive academic results. However, DNU-ers consistently leave a strong impression on employers due to their humility, courtesy, and professionalism. These qualities have led us to swiftly recruit 50 candidates. It is fair to say that while competence is essential, attitude plays a significant role. Dai Nam students completely conquer us with their prompt and professional demeanor; their polite and respectful attitude towards others; their gracious greetings and expressions of gratitude to employers after interviews; and their unwavering drive for progress and willingness to learn. These qualities enable them to excel without relying solely on exceptional talent." This insight is shared by Mr. Le Van Lam - the Assistant to the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hop Luc Joint Stock Company.

What qualities do employers seek in candidates?

There are numerous job opportunities available for fresh graduates. The evidence is that a multitude of companies offer vacancies for Junior and Fresher levels, indicating their willingness to hire candidates with limited experience and provide training. Nevertheless, the unemployment rate remains at an alarming level and businesses are facing a serious shortage of personnel. What are the causes for this situation?

According to Mr. Le Quan, the Head of School Relations at FPT Software: "The shortage of knowledge, skills, slow work pace, lack of energy and a reluctance to learn and progress are contributing to the issue. Many candidates approach interviews with a passive mindset of accepting whatever comes their way, which is a significant reason for their failure in the initial selection rounds".

Employers highly value the combination of strong skills and a positive attitude

Ms. Le Thi Phuong Dung, the CEO of Pharmaco Vietnam Strategic Consulting Joint Stock Company, states that: "We have turned down many students from top universities, despite their exceptional expertise in their respective fields. These rejections are primarily due to a misalignment of skills and attitudes with the company's expectations. Many of them have an inflated self-perception and make excessive demands regarding their rights without having brought any value to the company".

Ms. Dinh Lan Huong, the Head of the Recruitment Department at Tan Khoa Construction Engineering Technical Limited Liability Company, emphasizes that while qualifications are crucial for entering the job market, the decisive factor for companies in hiring students lies in their skills, enthusiasm, progressive mindset and professional attitude.

"In addition to foundational knowledge, candidates should equip themselves with social knowledge, computer skills, foreign languages, presentation skills, negotiation skills, etc. It is vital for them to cultivate a professional work attitude, willingness to take on tasks and challenges, fearlessness in the face of work, and the ability to transcend reliance solely on their expertise. Remember that employers prioritize attitude over qualifications because it determines whether a candidate will demonstrate long-term commitment to the company or not".
