Psychology students at Dai Nam University gain practical experience in personnel selection and human resource development.
As part of the courses in Organizational and Industrial Psychology, students of class TLH 18-02, Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences – Dai Nam University, participated in practical learning activities on personnel selection, evaluation, and human resource development. This was an opportunity for students to connect classroom knowledge with business practices, better understand the role of psychology in organizations, and prepare their professional skills for the modern labor market.
Organizational and Industrial Psychology: When Psychology Enters the Workplace
Organizational and Industrial Psychology is an important applied branch of Psychology, focusing on human behavior in the workplace, including personnel selection, performance evaluation, employee training and development, work motivation, organizational culture, and labor efficiency.
For students majoring in Organizational and Industrial Psychology, exposure to practical activities in the field of human resources helps them understand that working with people in an organization is not just about managing records, processes, or performance indicators, but also about identifying capabilities, motivations, attitudes, professional behaviors, and the fit between individuals and their jobs, teams, and corporate culture.
With a training orientation closely linked to practice, students of class TLH 18-02 had the opportunity to participate in highly practical learning activities, including a practical session on the Human Resource Selection and Evaluation module with recruitment experts and attending the Workshop "Co-creating the Future of Human Resources: Businesses Partnering in Practical Training - Hands-on Experience" within the framework of the Introduction to Industrial Organizational Psychology module.
Learn through practical experience in personnel selection and evaluation with recruitment experts.
As part of the Human Resources Selection and Evaluation course, students of class TLH 18-02 had a practical learning session with Ms. Nguyen Thai Ha, M.Sc. – the lecturer in charge of the course, and guest speaker Ms. Pham Phuong Thao – Head of Recruitment Department, JOHN HUNT Joint Stock Company.
Drawing on her practical experience in recruitment, Ms. Pham Phuong Thao shared with students many topics relevant to current HR work, such as how to search for and screen candidates, observe attitudes, assess potential for development, consider suitability with company culture, internal regulations, and legal requirements related to labor.

Through this lesson, students gained a better understanding that recruitment is not just a technical operation, but a process of evaluating people within an organizational context, in which HR professionals need to know how to observe, listen, ask questions, analyze behavior, and make judgments based on multiple sources of information.
It's not just about choosing the right people, but about choosing the right people.
A key highlight of the training session was the perspective that recruitment is not just about choosing the "best" person, but about choosing the most suitable person.
In business practice, a candidate with strong professional skills may not necessarily be suitable for the job position, organizational culture, or company's development direction. Therefore, the selection process needs to consider candidates from multiple perspectives: competence, attitude, motivation, personal values, adaptability, and suitability for the job requirements.

Students at Dai Nam University have the opportunity to learn practical knowledge from experts.
This content is of practical significance for students of Organizational and Industrial Psychology, because a foundation in psychology helps learners gain a deeper understanding of human behavior in organizations, thereby enabling them to analyze factors affecting work performance, engagement, motivation, and career development of employees.
Understanding generational differences and applying technology in recruitment.
In addition to the recruitment and candidate evaluation process, students also discussed the generational differences in the current workplace. Each generation has different career expectations, communication styles, motivations, and adaptation patterns, so understanding these differences helps HR professionals recruit more effectively, while also contributing to building a harmonious, fair, and performance-enhancing work environment.

In particular, the training session also touched on a very topical issue: the application of artificial intelligence in work and personnel selection. Artificial intelligence can assist in screening resumes, analyzing candidate data, and optimizing the recruitment process; however, to use the technology effectively and responsibly, HR professionals still need a foundation in psychology, critical thinking, knowledge of labor law, and sensitivity to human emotions and behavior.
Attend the Workshop “Co-building the Human Resources of the Future”
Continuing their practical career-oriented learning activities, students of class TLH 18-02 also participated in the Workshop “Co-creating the Future of Human Resources: Businesses Partnering in Training - Practical Application and Hands-on Experience” organized by the Faculty of Science and Technology of Education - Hanoi University of Science and Technology.
The workshop was supported by Associate Professor Pham Manh Ha, lecturer at Hanoi University of Science and Technology, in charge of the Introduction to Organizational and Industrial Psychology course at Dai Nam University, and Dr. Nguyen Thi Hai, the class's academic advisor. The workshop created a space for connection between the university, businesses, and students, emphasizing a practical training orientation where learners not only learn to know, but also learn to do, adapt, and create value in their professional environment.

From "Practical experience - Real-world application" to students' professional competence.
Through the workshop, students had the opportunity to better understand the trend of human resource training towards "Practical Application," the role of businesses in collaborating with educational institutions, and the increasingly high demands for professional skills from young workers.
The workshop content helps students gain a clearer understanding of questions closely related to their future careers: What should schools prepare for students? What do businesses need from young workers? What skills do students need to develop to be able to enter the real-world work environment?

From a psychology perspective, the workshop also helps learners better understand the role of psychology in organizations, from recruitment, evaluation, training, and personnel development to building corporate culture, enhancing work motivation, and improving organizational performance.
Bringing classroom knowledge into a business context.
While in the classroom, students learn about human behavior in organizations, work motivation, and the fit between individuals and jobs, practical activities place that knowledge within a broader context: the context of businesses participating in training, building human resources, and shaping new demands of the labor market.
These learning activities help students develop essential competencies for those studying Organizational and Industrial Psychology, such as observing behavior, analyzing situations, understanding work motivations, assessing career suitability, identifying factors affecting performance, and developing adaptive thinking in a rapidly changing work environment.
This is also essential preparation for students to access career positions related to recruitment, training, human resource development, organizational consulting, employee mental health care, and corporate culture building in the future.
Psychology training is closely linked to practical applications and businesses.
Two practical learning activities helped students in class TLH 18-02 better understand the connection between course knowledge and professional practice. With a focus on Organizational and Industrial Psychology, each experience with lecturers, experts, and businesses is a step towards understanding the profession, getting closer to it, and clearly visualizing their role in the field of human resources and organization.
The activity also reflects the training orientation of the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences - Dai Nam University: enhancing experiential learning, connecting with businesses, incorporating practical situations into the training process, and helping students gradually develop professional competencies even while still in university.
The Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences would like to express its sincere gratitude to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Manh Ha, Dr. Nguyen Thi Hai, Ms. Nguyen Thai Ha, and Ms. Pham Phuong Thao – Head of Recruitment Department, JOHN HUNT Joint Stock Company, for their companionship, sharing, guidance, and for creating opportunities for students to learn from practical experience.
Through extracurricular activities, Psychology students at Dai Nam University gain more opportunities to understand their profession, hone their skills, and better prepare for their future careers in the labor market. For Organizational and Industrial Psychology, this is a journey of learning to understand people in the workplace, within organizations, and in the very real dynamics of today's labor market.
