When Indian students first entered Dai Nam University, they carried suitcases filled with both high expectations and considerable anxieties.

From suitcases brimming with anxiety to the journey of becoming a global physician.

A year ago, hundreds of Indian students arrived in Vietnam with suitcases filled with both expectations and anxieties. For many, it was their first time away from home, living and studying in a completely new country where the language, culture, and living environment were all different.

The opening ceremony marked a historic event, welcoming 208 Indian students to the first international medical course in Vietnam.

A year has passed, and much has changed. The students have not only accumulated medical knowledge but also learned to be independent, adaptable, and mature, gradually becoming global citizens with the dream of wearing a white coat.

A life-changing decision

After a short time studying at the school, student Hari Jothy Narayani not only achieved impressive academic results but also made it to the top 12 of the Huong Sac Dai Nam beauty contest.

For Hari Jothy Narayani, the decision to study medicine in Vietnam was a major turning point in her life. “My family was both happy and worried, but I chose Vietnam because of the high quality of education, reasonable tuition fees, and the opportunity to experience a new culture,” Hari shared.

Hari is not alone; many Indian students have chosen Dai Nam University to pursue their dream of becoming doctors in an international training environment. It's not an easy journey, as they must overcome homesickness, cultural differences, and the challenges of independent living in a foreign land.

"Leaving my family to go to another country wasn't an easy decision for my parents. It's their faith and love that motivates me to strive every day," Amar Shetty Ankita shared emotionally.

What the students receive is not just medical knowledge.

After a year of study, what remains in the minds of many students is not just the lectures or grades, but also their adaptability, independence, and resilience in overcoming difficulties.

"From someone who was used to being cared for by her family, she learned to solve life's problems on her own, adapt to new environments, and be ready to face changes," said Mohamed Zahir Hussain.

These experiences are helping international students grow day by day, not only as medical students but also as future global citizens.

Studying Medicine in an International Training Environment

Dai Nam University currently has a Pre-clinical Center (Skill Lab) spanning over 800m², along with 13 practice rooms that meet the standards of the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education and Training.

At the International Medical Training Institute, Dai Nam University, students study entirely in English, have access to a modern training program, and a multicultural learning environment.

The Preclinical Skill Lab system, modern practice rooms, and simulation models provide students with access to a clinical environment right from their first years of study.

Patel Arshiya Abdul Razzak was most impressed by the system of equipment used for practical training.

Student Patel Arshiya Abdul Razzak was most impressed by the modern practice facilities at Dai Nam University while studying International Medicine.

Equipment like high-resolution microscopes and modern anatomical models makes learning much more intuitive. The moment I truly felt I was getting closer to my dream of becoming a doctor was when I put on a white coat and practiced on simulated cases,” Patel Arshiya Abdul Razzak shared.

According to Dr. Nguyen Hoai Giang, Deputy Director of the International Institute of Medical Training, investing in a modern practice system allows students to experiment, make mistakes, and correct errors on models before interacting with real patients. This training method contributes to improving professional competence while ensuring safety in medical education.

This modern 3D virtual anatomy table allows students to access and practice in a visual and easy-to-understand way.

In addition to specialized knowledge, students are also trained in teamwork, critical thinking, problem-solving, and cross-cultural communication skills through modern training methods.

When Vietnam becomes a second home

After a year of studying, many Indian students no longer see Vietnam as a foreign place; they have Vietnamese friends, supportive teachers, and a friendly living environment that allows them to focus on their studies.

The school implements a comprehensive support ecosystem encompassing both academics and student life. Students learn conversational Vietnamese, specialized Vietnamese for the medical field, receive regular academic advising, and participate in numerous cultural exchange activities.

In addition to acquiring knowledge, students at Dai Nam University also have the opportunity to engage in international cultural exchange through experiential activities, cultural festivals, and more.

Traditional Indian festivals like Diwali and Holi, or the Vietnamese Lunar New Year, all become memorable experiences during a study abroad journey.

“I especially love Vietnamese vegetarian pho. My Vietnamese friends have helped me understand this country better and I feel like this place is my second home,” Hari Jothy Narayani shared.

From Dai Nam University to the journey of becoming a global doctor.

A year ago, they came to Vietnam with curiosity, expectations, and anxieties. A year later, they have grown more mature, more confident, and taken a big step forward on their journey to becoming doctors.

According to Dr. Nguyen Hoai Giang, the program's goal is not only to train highly skilled professionals but also to cultivate doctors who are capable of international integration, respect cultural differences, and maintain a spirit of lifelong learning.

Activities at the soft skills camp help students bond, share experiences, and have more fun after hours of studying in the classroom.

“We want our students to be nurtured in three core values: compassion, respect for cultural diversity, and a spirit of lifelong learning. These are crucial qualities for medical professionals in the 21st century,” emphasized Dr. Nguyen Hoai Giang.
