Many students still picture logistics through intricate diagrams in their textbooks. But at Dai Nam University (DNU), logistics is the smell of the sea breeze, the sound of crane chains clashing against ship hulls, and the overwhelming feeling of standing in the hold of a ship carrying tens of thousands of tons of cargo. Recently, a field trip to the VSICO port and warehouse system transformed these dry concepts into vivid cinematic experiences, allowing students of the Faculty of Logistics & International Business to touch the "lifeblood" of the global supply chain.

Stepping onto the port for the first time, descending into the cargo hold of ships, and exploring the warehouses, many students from the Faculty of Logistics & International Business, Dai Nam University (DNU), couldn't hide their surprise. Before them were no longer diagrams, illustrations from textbooks, or theoretical concepts, but real goods, real processes, and the actual operation of a global supply chain. It was in these moments of direct observation and experience that many students began to form a clearer picture of the careers they would pursue in the future.

Students majoring in International Business, Faculty of Logistics & International Business, experienced the VSICO warehouse system, directly observing how warehouses are organized, arranged, and operated according to professional standards.

"Open classroom" within a business environment.

As part of the practical experience program at VSICO Maritime Corporation, students majoring in International Business had direct access to the working environment at the port and warehouse system.

Business experience makes classroom knowledge more vivid and clear than ever before.

From the ship's hold and bridge to the loading and unloading areas and warehouses, each stage of the logistics chain is visually recreated. Students not only visit but also systematically learn about the operation of ocean-going vessels, how cargo flow is organized at the port, and the model of warehouse management and operation according to professional standards.

“Knowledge that was previously only found in lectures has now become much clearer and more concrete. Before, I only had an idea through lectures, but when I went down to the ship's hold and observed how goods are arranged, I truly understood what logistics is and what kind of job I will do in the future,” shared Ho Yen Vy, a second-year student in the Faculty of Logistics & International Business.

From the cockpit, through binoculars looking out at the open sea – that's where students begin to get a clearer picture of the journey of goods in the global supply chain.

Bringing the classroom to the business world: How DNU trains students to be more aligned with real-world practices.

Beyond simply facilitating visits, VSICO also directly shared with students the practical requirements of the industry, operational procedures, and professional experiences.

The support of businesses helps students approach their chosen profession from a practical perspective, thereby gaining a better understanding of the demands of the labor market.

Students gain hands-on experience in the control room, observing and listening to explanations about how trains operate in real-world situations.

Dr. Le Thi My Ngoc - Head of the Department of Logistics & International Business shared: “Students not only need knowledge, but also need to understand how work is done in practice. Therefore, the Department always focuses on integrating businesses into the training process, helping students access the working environment right from their time in school.”

Through experiential programs, internships, and collaborations with businesses, students not only understand their chosen profession but also develop a clear career mindset, ready to adapt to the demands of the labor market immediately after graduation.”

According to the training orientation of the Faculty of Logistics & International Business, students not only gain access to specialized knowledge but are also given opportunities to gain practical experience from an early age.

Through activities at the company, students will gradually:

- Understand the roles of different positions within the supply chain.

- Connecting knowledge with practical work experience.

- Define your career path in detail.

These experiences help students avoid uncertainty upon graduation, enabling them to quickly adapt to the real-world work environment.

From experience to career guidance

The experiential learning program at VSICO is not just a learning activity, but also an opportunity for students to gain a clearer understanding of the profession they are pursuing.

By directly observing the flow of goods and how a logistics system operates, students begin to learn with clearer goals and become more proactive in preparing for the future.

Practical training – a competitive advantage for DNU students.

With a focus on close collaboration between education and businesses, Dai Nam University not only equips students with knowledge but also creates an environment for them to experience, train, and grow.

The Logistics & International Business program at DNU aims to train students with practical skills, ready to enter the labor market immediately after graduation.

Students don't wait until graduation to understand their chosen profession; they are introduced to and become familiar with the work during their studies. This is a crucial foundation that helps them confidently integrate and thrive in a globalized world.
