With artificial intelligence (AI) capable of translating, writing, and communicating in English in seconds, many high school students and parents are asking: Is there still a place for English language studies? That question isn't wrong. But if we look deeper, we'll see that AI doesn't render English obsolete; instead, it reveals something more important: the value of a language professional lies not in "knowing how to speak," but in "knowing how to use language to create value for people, organizations, and the market."

In the age of AI, English is no longer just a subject for exams. It has become a global communication infrastructure: connecting people, businesses, knowledge, and technology. AI can process text, but it cannot replace intercultural thinking, the ability to understand context, read hidden meanings, construct messages, persuade partners, or resolve complex interpersonal communication situations. That is the "domain" of English language learners.

According to Associate Professor Dr. Dao Thi Thu Giang - Rector of Dai Nam University, in the age of AI, English language learners are not just foreign language users, but also foreign language professionals. Their core advantage no longer lies in pronunciation or grammar, but in their linguistic thinking abilities, cultural understanding, strategic communication, and the ability to integrate technology into their work. These abilities cannot be fully "automated."

Therefore, the question "what to do after graduation?" needs to be rephrased: not a fixed profession, but working in professional spaces where English is the central tool of value. This could be international communication and marketing, corporate foreign relations, logistics and cross-border trade, multilingual digital content management, education and training, tourism and hospitality, international market research… And in the AI environment, English language learners also take on a new role: global content designers, language quality control inspectors, and intermediaries between humans and technology systems.

More importantly, AI doesn't take away opportunities, but rather raises the bar for professional careers. Today's English language learners must be trained to be proficient in both the language and possess professional skills and technological thinking. Those who only "know the language" will be replaced. But those who can use English to solve problems, build strategies, and connect with the world will become more valuable than ever.

Based on this understanding, the English Language major at Dai Nam University is designed with an applied and professional focus. Students do not learn English as an independent subject, but rather in connection with real-world work contexts. Specialized orientations such as Business English and English for Education help students shape their career paths early on, even while still in university.

According to MSc. PhD candidate Nguyen Vy Ngoc - Deputy Head of the English Language Department, students at Dai Nam University are trained under the philosophy of "knowing English to work professionally". From the early years, students practice communication in a business environment, access real professional situations, and become familiar with the application of AI in translation, content writing, data analysis, and international work. AI is not seen as an "adversary," but as a tool to enhance professional capabilities.

In addition to the training program, the dynamic learning environment, close guidance from lecturers, and a network of business connections help students gradually develop professional skills, an integrated mindset, and adaptability – factors that determine the value of workers in the digital age.

In a world where borders are blurring and technology is becoming increasingly powerful, those who master language, global thinking, and technology will always have a place. The English Language major is not "outdated" in the age of AI – it is entering a phase that demands higher, deeper, and more valuable skills. With a practical training orientation and a philosophy of "Dedicated to the learner," Dai Nam University is a reliable choice for high school students seeking a modern and sustainable field of study for the future.
