What is Medicine?

Medicine is a prestigious field of study that garners top interest from high-achieving, talented, dynamic, and resilient students during each university admission season.

Medicine (also known as General Medicine) is a program designed to train general practitioners in examining, diagnosing, treating, and providing preventive healthcare guidance for common diseases in hospitals and communities.

The primary goal of Medical education is to train General Practitioners with adequate medical ethics, basic scientific knowledge and solid medical foundation, essential clinical and community healthcare knowledge and skills, the ability to integrate modern and traditional medicine, foreign language proficiency and research capabilities, and the ability to access and apply medical scientific advancements in protecting and caring for public health.

Dai Nam University is one of the few non-public universities in Northern Vietnam authorized to offer a General Medicine program.

What Will You Learn in the General Medicine Program?

Training duration: 6 years.

In the first two years, Medical students will be equipped with basic science and foundational medical knowledge to form a solid foundation for acquiring professional knowledge in the final four years of the training program.

The Medical training program at Dai Nam University equips students with specialized knowledge, professional skills, soft skills, IT proficiency,... and outstanding foreign language proficiency.

Additionally, from the very first year, Medical students will study basic English, IT, Soft skills, General law,...to confidently obtain a practising certificate after graduation.

From semester IV to semester XII, students must undergo practical training and participate in hospital rotations. Studying in a real-world environment at hospitals is an opportunity for students to practice their future professional skills.

At Dai Nam University, the General Medicine curriculum is designed based on the C.D.I.O. framework, aligning with the learning outcomes that meet the competency standards for general practitioners issued by the Vietnamese Ministry of Health in 2014.

Students are able to study and practice using modern equipment right on campus.

Ensure proficiency in skills before attending clinical training at hospitals.

The medical training program is designed with 198 credits (Excluding Physical Education, Defense and Security Education courses).

The program comprises 155 credits of professional education, including 8 credits of the field-specific knowledge block and 147 credits of the specialized and supplementary knowledge block (of which core courses in Medicine, covering Internal Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynecology, and Pediatrics, account for 79 credits).

Additionally, the training program equips students with general English proficiency at level 3/6 and specialized English. Dai Nam University invests four times more in English training for Medical students compared to other majors.

According to the Ministry of Health, the ratio of doctors per 10,000 people in Vietnam is 8.6, which is 4 – 8 times lower than the ratios of many countries with advanced healthcare systems. The total number of preventive healthcare workers from central to district levels only meets 42% of the human resource needs. Medical graduates with a General Practitioner degree can take on the following roles and positions:
