How does DNU guide students to align their career paths with their abilities and strengths?

“Ensuring that the chosen field of study is compatible with one's abilities and strengths is crucial for maximizing personal potential. However, inadequate guidance often leaves many young individuals feeling uncertain, lacking passion and clear educational goals, ultimately leading to a high unemployment rate. To tackle this issue, DNU recognizes the need for proactive involvement and strives to guide students' career paths based on their abilities and strengths right from the beginning and throughout their academic journey at university”. This is the perspective shared by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Van Hong, the Rector of Dai Nam University.

The choice of an inappropriate major leads to shattered dreams

As the National High school Graduation exam approaches, students are rushing to complete their profiles and make decisions about selected universities and majors. However, not every candidate can determine the major that suits their abilities and strengths. Many students even choose universities based on trends, prestige, or simply following the crowd, influenced by factors like income levels and personal preferences...

Family guidance is not always suitable as parents may not understand their child's interests or which professions are best suited for them. Many parents guide their children based on their own preferences or family traditions, even if those fields are not aligned with their children's passions or suitability.

According to a survey by a labor forecasting center, 60% of students choose the wrong major. Only around 5% have knowledge about their chosen field; 20% have relatively sufficient knowledge, and 75% lack understanding about their chosen profession.

The consequences of choosing the wrong major and lacking knowledge about the field result in students lacking motivation to study, losing confidence in themselves, feeling dispirited, and lacking clear development goals.

Candidates need to take their chosen major into consideration carefully

"If students lack awareness of the importance of professions, it is the responsibility of universities to offer guidance and kindle their passion. This proactive approach enables students to showcase their abilities, develop their potential, acquire value, and make meaningful contributions to society and the community," emphasized Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Van Hong.

How has Dai Nam University provided guidance to students?

First and foremost, the advisory team at Dai Nam University is available 24/7 to provide dedicated support and answer students' questions during the university and major exploration process. This ensures that students can make accurate assessments and choose majors that align with their abilities and strengths.

Second, Dai Nam University ensures that students gain knowledge about the university and receive career orientation during the freshmen citizen activities week and meetings with freshmen from different faculties. They receive insights and guidance from the University's Heads, faculty deans, professors, lecturers, students, alumni, and business owners.

The University collaborates with businesses and organizes Job Fair events, where students can apply for positions that align with their abilities, strengths, and fields of study. Businesses can evaluate potential candidates and orient themselves towards hiring suitable candidates.

Starting from their second year, students develop their CV writing and interview skills through the Advanced Soft Skills training program offered by the Faculty of Soft Skills Training and Development. They can also register for direct interviews with company representatives.

At the Job Fair event, students have the opportunity to select recruitment booths based on their majors and personal preferences, submit their CVs, and participate in one-on-one interviews.
