Green Summer 2024: A Journey of Passion and Compassion of Dai Nam University Student

The Green Summer campaign is an annual event organized by the Dai Nam University Youth Union, with the goal of encouraging students to volunteer and engage in community service in keeping with the slogan "Wherever there is a need, the youth will be present." Dai Nam University's medical faculties and students have participated in the program for the last three years, contributing to alleviating the healthcare difficulties of mountainous communities. The journey to Po Ly Ngai commune in Hoang Su Phi district, Ha Giang province, has created meaningful stories filled with passion and compassion, affirming the noble spirit and mutual support of DNU's youth. 

Vu Dang Tuan Anh, Secretary of the Dai Nam University Student Union, shared: This is the 17th consecutive year that Dai Nam University has organized the Green Summer campaign, providing opportunities for students to unleash their youth and passion.

"Green Summer provides students with the opportunities to mature and develop into responsible citizens. Through each activity, students not only support the community but also acquire invaluable practical lessons that cannot be gained from a textbook

The 2024 Green Summer campaign took place from July 19th to 31st in Po Ly Ngai commune, Hoang Su Phi district, Ha Giang province.

Practical Actions with Meaningful Numbers

In the campaign, Dai Nam University Union has implemented a series of practical activities, bringing positive values to the people of Po Ly Ngai commune.

Installing 40 solar-powered street lights, with a total value of 50 million VND, lighting up village roads, providing greater convenience and safety for the locals at night.

Nine summer activities were organized, attracting nearly 400 children, providing them a fun and enriching playground and helping them develop holistically.

Five gifts worth 3 million VND were sent to policy families on the occasion of the 27th of July, Vietnamese War Invalids and Martyrs' Day.

This was also an opportunity to educate the young generation of DNU about patriotism and the indomitable spirit of our ancestors.

Students dedicated a day to build a house for a poor family, helping to turn the dream of a safe home into reality.

The "Love Photo Studio" - a special program with two photo sessions - provided nearly 200 photos, capturing precious moments for the locals.

Free Medical Check-ups and Drug Distribution

On July 24th, Dai Nam University Medical Team, including associate professors, doctors, 3rd and 4th-year medical students with many years of experience in medical examination and teaching, visited Po Ly Ngai commune to conduct free medical check-ups and provide medicine for the locals.

At the commune, the medical team examined and screened for respiratory, digestive, cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, otorhinolaryngology, oral, surgical, obstetric, gynecological, and dermatological diseases for 238 people. 

The teachers and students of the Faculty of Medicine diligently examined the people of Po Ly Ngai commune

Donating medical equipment and medicine to the local health station with a total value of over 200 million dong.

Presented 208 gift packages to poor households, with a total value of over 33 million VND.

Valuable Lessons That No Textbook Can Teach

Nguyen Duy Luan, a student from class TTDPT 15.02, shared: "This is not my first Green Summer, but it's the first time I've participated as the team leader. Through managing the entire team, I have a clearer understanding of my responsibility in leading and spreading positive values to the community.

Dang Thi Hieu, from the Logistics 17.02 class said: "Through each Green Summer activity, I realize that cooperation, mutual respect, patience, and solidarity are the keys to creating positive environment change. I am truly grateful for these invaluable lessons. This is also the inspiration for me to continue developing and contributing more to society.

Hoang Duc Toan, from the CKO 16.02 class, expressed: "Green Summer is a memorable journey, not only bringing knowledge and happiness but also creating a sense of closeness and bonding like a family. During 13 days of volunteering, 30 companions have together created the most beautiful and meaningful memories of my student life. Thank you all for creating these unforgettable moments. I look forward to seeing you at Green Summer 2025!"

The 2024 Green Summer has come to an end, leaving a deep impression and valuable lessons in the hearts of each DNU volunteer. These memories will surely motivate the young people to continue contributing and spreading the volunteer spirit in their future journeys.
