How to become a good Nurse in the future?

Mr. Le Van Duy - Head of Nursing Department of Dai Nam University said: Nurses are the ones directly responsible for taking care of people's health, therefore, to become a good nurse, first of all, one must have a deep love for the profession. Next, students need to equip themselves with a solid foundation of knowledge about the nursing profession.

“You should take advantage of your time studying and practicing in the classroom as well as doing internships at the hospital to have a solid foundation of medical knowledge. Don’t let “gaps” in your knowledge directly affect the health and lives of patients.”

A good nurse, in addition to professional knowledge and good professional skills, must have a kind heart.

In addition, a good nurse needs to meet the following criteria:

  • Diligent and careful: Nurses are the ones who directly take care of patients' health, so all operations and skills must be careful and error-free to avoid serious consequences.
  • Quick and active: Although nurses cannot make decisions on their own and must still follow the doctor's instructions, they can still proactively resolve any situation within the rules to help work go more smoothly.
  • Withstand pressure and stress: All those working in the medical field must meet this requirement because the biggest burden is related to human health and life.
  • Good communication skills: To be able to convey information from doctor to patient and vice versa, you need to have the right way of speaking. Therefore, nurses need to have good communication skills.

Ms. Cao Thi Hoa - Vice Principal especially advised students of the Nursing Faculty of Dai Nam University: "To become good nurses, with good medical ethics and international integration; requires you to make continuous efforts to study. If you want to receive, you have to sacrifice, nothing is free. The school always creates the best conditions for you to study. Teachers will be the extended arm of the school, teaching you wholeheartedly".

Students are evaluated according to practical ability.

The school has set out a requirement for assessing the practice of Nursing techniques to achieve a high level according to the Dave skill assessment scale through the OSCE station running test - an assessment method that has been and is being applied by international Nursing Universities.

For basic theoretical subjects, the school evaluates students' knowledge through the Bloom scale. Real-life situations and cases are presented for students to apply their knowledge, thereby forming and developing the ability to analyze, think critically, and respond quickly to real-life situations.

Nursing students practice their skills from the first year and throughout their studies.

Mr. Le Van Duy said: “During the learning process, students will be guided from simple to complex skills at the school's skill practice facilities to reach a certain level. Then students will practice and intern at hospitals to directly care for patients under the direct guidance of medical staff.”
