The Faculty is one of the first four departments of Dai Nam University. The Faculty of Civil Engineering – Architecture has built up a host of competent lecturers and staff. The Faculty has admitted students for 05 terms, in which students of the first term have graduated. The Faculty offers two majors: Civil Engineering of Construction and Architecture. 

II. TRAINING TARGET

A. Civil Engineering 

Training target

To train students to become professional, competent and ethical engineers to meet the demand from the construction industry. 

Requirements on knowledge 

  • Basic knowledge: advanced mathematics, physics, chemistry; 
  • Fundamental courses of the major: Materials Durability, Mechanical Structure, Engineering Geology, Soil Mechanics, Building Foundation, Survey, Informatics for Civil Engineering, Construction Machine, Electrical Engineering, Dynamics of Structure. 
  • Advanced courses of the major: drainage and plumbing, structural engineering, architecture, planning, civil and industrial building design and construction, public buildings made of concrete, steel and other traditional and modern materials. 

Requirements on hard skills

  • Design: students are able to lead or participate in surveying, designing industrial/civil/public buildings…
  • Construction: students are able to lead, arrange and supervise the progress and quality of building construction.  
  • Management and exploitation: Managing and exploiting public, industrial and civil construction
  • Construction investment project management: Managing construction activities
  • Research and teaching in the basic civil engineering
  • Information technology application: Equipping students the ability to apply information technology in their major, especially specialized softwares in construcition designs and project management. 
  • Ability to read and make conversations in English with the proficiency level at 400 TOEIC. 

Requirements on soft skills

 Adaptability: Equipping students the ability to adapt to the changes of the job market to meet the rising demand of the society

  • Synthesis, analysis and problem solving: Equipping students with the ability to collect information; synthesize and analyze data, events to make proper evaluation and comparison to come up with suitable solutions in the fields of industrial and civil engineering. 
  • Teamwork: Equipping students with the ability to work together as a member or leader of a team to reach the best possible results. 
  • Communication: Equipping students with the ability to communicate and display ideas in various forms such as listening, speaking, writing, drawing to convince partners. Requirements on attitudes 
  • Displaying proper ethics and professionalism. Displaying good relationship with 
  • colleagues and community. 
  • Displaying the ability to pursuit further study to improve and update knowledge.

  • Designers of civil, industrial and public constructions… in consulting companies.
  •  Supervisor of construction progress and quality
  • Head of construction projects and construction investment projects
  • Plan makers and managers at construction projects
  • Researchers and lecturers
  •  Construction managers at businesses.

Learning opportunities after graduation

  • Based on the fundamental and advanced knowledge learnt from the program, graduated students will be able to pursuit further study level such as master or doctor degree. Students are able to update new technology for their jobs. 
  • Students are able to study in different majors to switch jobs if the market demands.

B. Architecture

Training target

To train students to become professional, competent and ethical architects to meet the demand from the construction industry. 

Requirements on knowledge

  • Basic knowledge: advanced mathematics, physics, chemistry; 
  • Fundamental courses of the major: basic knowledge on architecture, planning, interior, scenery…,  and knowledge construction durability, mechanics of structure, soil mechanics, foundation, structural engineering, building materials, building technology, environment…
  • Advanced courses of the major: in-depth knowledge on building design in public, industrial and civil construction. 
  • Requirements on hard skills
  • Students are able to lead or participate in designing industrial/civil/public buildings;
  • Managing architecture projects
  • Conducting researches or teaching courses on architecture and design at organizations, research centres, training institution… 
  • Ability to read and make conversations in English with the proficiency level at 400 TOEIC. 

Requirements on soft skills 

Students are trained in practice skills in most of the fields of architecture, design and construction to adapt to realistic production environment after graduation. Students are also training in arrangement skills and teamwork, communication skills, presentation and negotiation skills. 

Requirements on attitudes

  • Displaying proper ethics and professionalism. Displaying good relationship with colleagues and community. 
  • Displaying the ability to pursuit further study to improve and update knowledge.
  • Possible jobs after graduation
  • Architects leading or participating in projects on building design
  • Managers, researchers or lecturers on architecture in various organizations
  •  Students can also start their own architecture companies

IV. ACTIVITIES

1. Meetings at the beginning of year

Every year, at the beginning of year, the faculty opens meetings to inform students the goal of becoming engineers and architects after 5 years studying at the Faculty of Civil Engineering – Architecture. Students will transform into competent engineers who are able to meet the demand of the society as good as students from other universities. Lecturers of the faculty also analyze the opportunities and challenges so that students can better identify their future path. The meetings also cover the learning methods for students to help them quickly adapt to the learning style in university. 

2. Students meeting with business managers

To improve the ties between the university and businesses, the faculty frequently hosts meetings for students and guests from architecture companies and construction companies so that students can have practical experience and understanding about their future jobs and the requirements of the market. The faculty has held meeting with Dr. Tran Van Nam – Director of Thanh Nam Design Consulting Company, M.Eng.
